Art has always helped me
make sense of the world.

Using oils, watercolours, inks as well as digital ~ my wildlife driven illustrations are singular in theme. From whimsical characters, nature-inspired scenes, to the recurring characters of Popote and Mr. Golden crab, I love unveiling these imaginative worlds for kids & adults alike.

My portfolio spans traditional painting, digital illustration, hand lettering & editorial illustrations with artwork ranging from botanicals, florals, wildlife, holiday-themed to abstract landscapes.

My creative journey has been adventurous & I hope that people feel a little enchanted and maybe a little more connected to the beauty found around us through my art.

Before 'The Studio Libran' there was just Roshan Davina Eddy, the artist who created whimsical and playful pieces of work through digital or traditional mediums. Dive in to see more of my work.

ENTER MY CREATIVE WORLD

Even though I'm not a beach person, I've always been drawn to maritime art. Roshan's seascapes have been my favourite, besides her playful storybook art. In the painting I have, the orange\ochre textured reflection of the sunset in the water, along with the underdogs of the waves, tugboats, belies their quiet power that i resonate with.

Working with Roshan has always been peaceful since she understands what I want. I'd seen her work at The Y Madras and loved the way she put everything together, which is why I asked her to work with me at The Y India as well. From there, asking her to do my personal projects was a complete no-brainer.

Happy Mother's Day

If you know me by now, you know I'm always late to any trend or challenge.

My first illustration in memory of Mothers Day five years ago (I was in time for that one) was quite fun and I vowed to make more of them.

I got sidetracked though and ended up making Popote-centric illustrations. Among the trees, floating in space, swimming with the whales (we both secretly wish we had one as a pet).

This year I missed the Earth day illustration challenge again, but I live in eternal hope and I'm sure I'll get them done this year.

Fun fact ~
While the main reason for Mother's day varies, and the person responsible for it is up for debate, Mother's day came about mostly to advocate for peace.

Tea cups, tea parties and memories

Cute critters in teacups, seemed so random, till it became my symbol of resilience. In the midst of grief someone berated me on choices I made for Popote and me.

So teacups and critters stayed and are now a collection. Sharks, dragons, unicorns, dinos, ghosts, birds and more.

And that leads to memories of Popote inviting her grandparents to a tea party like in Enid Blyton stories. Dad would daintily hold a tea cup, Mom would laugh that the eats had been taken from her dining table to Popote's room!

In times of grief, memories are the ones that help us move forward. Atleast that's what I tell myself this week.

Memories in pieces of art like these, makes them even more special. What else do you think I can add to teacups?

Fun fact ~
Tea grew wild in Assam, India and was introduced to a Scottish Major. This eventually led to the East India company setting up and cultivating tea gardens at Darjeeling to export to Britain and break the China monopoly on tea.

Interestingly though, the Singpho tribes had been drinking tea for medicinal purposes long before all that.

Have you been glued to your phone today?

I skipped it all entirely because the news was more shocking than I could handle. Of course the overthinker in me came out to play asking 'how we have come to live in a world that is showing a decline in justice and fairness'.

Doomscrolling on my phone would have probably been better.

Anyway, bad news aside, I give you my new phone wallpapers for the month. I forgot about last month - they are up on my Gumroad.

Fun fact ~ we need it today
The first smartphone was in 1992 by IBM. Then Nokia introduced a Qwerty keyboard phone. Blackberry threw its hat into this ring by tying workaholics to their phones in 2002 and then Apple sealed the deal with a multi touch interface iPhone in 2007.

So now, we can't live without these pieces of tech in our lives.

Hot Pink Penguins

Bringing this back because April brought with it sad news - the possible extinction of Emperor Penguins by 2080.

IUCN changed the status of Emperor Penguins from near threatened to the endangered list.

Loss of sea ice due to the global warming has affected all the creatures living in the polar regions and it's shocking and sad.

Fun fact ~
Because of Anish Kapoor and his exclusive rights to Vantablack, a British artist Stuart Semple created Black 2.0 and Pinkest Pink. The condition for buying his pigments were, it was for everyone except Anish Kapoor.

Another fun fact ~
Stuart Semple changed his name to Anish Kapoor as a form of protest of Anish Kapoor's monopoly on Vantablack.

From the Midnight series

Last year I finally completed my Midnight's Bloom series. They started as compositions of oil paints on Black canvas. Then my illustrations went digital.

I made coasters too. And now I'm taking a slight detour from a secret project to repurpose these into prompts.

Black has been the colours used since the time of cave paintings.

Super interesting fun fact ~
In 2016, Vantablack, the pigment 'blackest of blacks' that absorbs 99.96% of light was exclusively secured by Anish Kapoor for his art, inciting rage in the art world (because of course it had to be an Indian, a British Indian to be precise). Now there are more blacker blacks that everyone else can use, but Anish Kapoor.
